The Gladiator's Master - Fae Sutherland, Marguerite Labbe Holy crap! That was just... the hottest. I've loved gladiatorial stuff ever since Russell Crowe won that Oscar, so this book obviously appealed. But I seriously did not expect to enjoy it so much. It's a story about a Roman lord who falls in love with one of his gladiators, but the twist is that Caelius, the master in name, is kind of a sub in bed and the gladiator, Gaidres, hates his guts. That sounds maybe a bit silly, but this book turned out to be fantastic. Their strained and unconventional relationship is aces. The D/s elements are unstructured and visceral, and the sex scenes are full-on smoking. But that's really not all there is to the book, ancient Roman life is wonderfully portrayed, the actions scenes are great and dramatic and the characters are multi-dimensional and likable. So, yeah, really liked and would recommend it to anyone.
